The Coalition of Neighborhood Associations along with the City of Olympia is sponsoring a Neighborhood Conversation just for you, a conversation about where we all live; neighborhoods. We are very excited and pleased to announce that the world renown Jim Diers, the former director of Seattle's Office of Neighborhoods is coming to Olympia to share his thoughts and vision with our community. Jim is a champion of participatory democracy who finds creative and resourceful ways to get more people involved with their communities and the decisions that affect their daily lives. In Jim's fourteen years of service with the city of Seattle, his department's mission was to decentralize and coordinate city services, strengthen communities and their organizations, and work in partnership with these organizations to preserve and enhance the neighborhoods. Jim's influence and legacy is still evident throughout Seattle and in today's work at Seattle's Department of Neighborhoods. Jim is also the author of Neighbor Power: Building Community the Seattle Way.
Please be our guest for the evening. We will begin the program with a "Neighborhood Conversation" on neighborhood planning, a review of what was learned at the Imagine Olympia neighborhood meetings held in January and March, and then hear from Jim Diers on the endless possibilities we have for changing our future and for making our dreams for our community a reality. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, May 23, 2011, at 6:30 pm at City Hall.

Neighborhoods, Here is a link to a graphic that illustrates the process and timeline Olympia is using in hiring a new police chief. http://tinyurl.com/OPDCHIEF The City Manager attended the Coalition's meeting on Monday, August 9, 2010. The neighborhoods discussed the qualities they would like to see in Olympia's new police chief. The discussion went well and many ideas were shared. We look forward to the next steps in the process. I. Special
Meeting: A Neighborhood Conversation
How can we improve the quality of life in neighborhoods
and in Olympia?
Please join neighborhood
leaders for a neighborhood conversation, a discussion about what is happening
in your neighborhood. What are the
main issues that are important to you and your neighbors? Come share your ideas
and experiences with other neighborhoods so we can learn from one another.
Let us begin dialogues about what can be done to improve
the quality of life in our neighborhoods and what can be done to strengthen
relationships between individual neighborhoods and between the neighborhoods
and the city. Concrete suggestions
and new ideas for positive change are especially valuable. Board members or another representative
from your neighborhood are always welcome to attend.

I'm writing to remind you that our next SC meeting is slated for
Monday, January 26th at 6:30 pm at MIXX '96. Julie and I have been meeting to
work on the agenda (we hope to finalize it by Wed.) and on reviewing
the revisions that have been suggested to the bylaws in preparation for
our discussion about them next week. In addition to the changes that
Don Law suggested, Phil Schulte (a member of the Goldcrest NA board)
sent us some suggestions - and Julie and I are working on some of
our own that we'll send out along with the agenda. I've attached
Phil's suggestions to this note. If any of you have any other
suggested changes to the bylaws please send them along to the full SC
by this Friday.
I want to thank Jeanne Marie and Bob for their help over the last few
weeks. They completed the 12-8-08 meeting record and they've
been working to secure meeting rooms for our 2009 meetings. We'll
discuss the details when we meet. |
